    Letter to the Parish, 11-5-2020

    Dear People of St. Paul’s,

I write to inform you of the suspension of indoor, in-person worship at St. Paul’s for this coming Sunday and until further notice.  By directive of Bishop Scarfe, we and all worshipping communities in the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa are required to “return to our online presence and forgo in person worship for the time being” due to “a powerful surge of [coronavirus] infection.”

Cathedral staff have worked hard this week to offer ways to promote connectedness to each other and to God during this time:

    • From Monday November 9th Paul's doors will open at noon each weekday and you are invited to enter the sanctuary for a time of quiet: to sit, pray, reflect. A clergy person will be available for conversation if desired.  Enter from 9th Street please, or at the north door if you need stair-free entry.
    • A program of five Cathedral Arts Events begins on November 22nd with a live-streamed Thanksgiving Choral Evensong at 4 pm. The full listing of events is available here.
    • Paul’s services of Holy Eucharist will be live-streamed weekly at 10 am.
    • Drive-up communion from reserved sacrament is available on Sundays from 9.00 to 9.30 am and from 11.30 am to 12 noon. Carillon concerts continue from 9.15 to 9.45 am each Sunday.

Our positive experience with All Saints’ Sunday services indicate that we are ready to gather in-person for Sunday worship as soon as this wave of infection has passed, and we look forward to that day.

Please be assured of the care and concern for each and every one of you that is felt by St. Paul’s clergy and staff.  You are invited to contact us at any time with thoughts, questions, ideas, needs, or anything else.

    Yours in Christ,

    Amma Nicola
