Volunteers from the Cathedral serve approximately 250 meals at Central Iowa Shelter and Services on the 24th of every month. Our service is a big, much-needed endeavor. Can you commit some time, $$, or food for the residents of the shelter?

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Food Prep

  • Check the Central Iowa Shelter Meal Sign up outside the Guild Hall
  • Determine what foods you can contribute
  • Casserole pans and recipes provided, if needed
  • Sign up and bring the food labeled "Shelter Meal" to St. Paul's Undercroft kitchen by the 23rd of the month

$$ Gifts

  • Place "Shelter Meal" contribution check into the weekly offering

Food Transport

  • Sign up indicating your availability to transport food from St. Paul's kitchen, refrigerator and freezer (2 persons)

Food Service

  • Arrive at 4:00 pm to turn on the ovens, thaw casseroles, collect food in prep area, cook casseroles (2 persons)
  • Servers meet in the Cathedral Parking lot at 5:30pm (8 persons)
  • Travel together to Central Iowa Shelter & Services, 1420 Mulberry St.
  • Do last minute prep and serve (NO clean-up required!)

20 Casseroles - serving 12 people each, vegetarian clearly marked

16 Large Bags of Mixed Greens

4 Large Bottles of Ranch Salad Dressing

10 5lb Cans of Fruit

1 Large Tub of Margarine

21 Dozen Cookies

1 3lb Can of Coffee
